KPV is a tripeptide consisting of the amino acid sequence lysine-proline-valine, derived from the C-terminal region of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). This naturally occurring peptide fragment has attracted significant research interest due to its observed bioactivity in studies examining inflammatory signaling pathways, mucosal immunology, and innate immune cell modulation. In laboratory settings, KPV has been studied for its effects on NF-kB nuclear translocation, a key event in the inflammatory transcriptional program, with in vitro studies in colonic epithelial cell lines and macrophage cultures demonstrating measurable modulation of this pathway upon KPV exposure at defined concentrations.
